In short, your child should visit the dentist for the first time around their first birthday. It’s important to get kids started early with dental and doctor visits to display to them that these checkups are a regular and necessary part of taking care of themselves.
When their first birthday is approaching, begin the search for a pediatric dentist who will gently introduce them to this new and potentially strange procedure of having their teeth cleaned. If you are a nervous dental patient, consider having another family member or friend take your child to their first visit so as to avoid passing on your anxiety.
While it’s unlikely that children will have any dental issues to deal with by age one, it’s important to see the dentist proactively to prevent any possible future issues. Of course, if you find your child is having an issue prior to their first birthday, please do contact your dentist.
Don’t forget to keep your little one’s teeth clean with a soft brush and limit their intake of sugary foods as much as possible.
